You can move your mouse over the lines to see specific stats. It’s quite interesting to see where people are coming from and going to. For example, the long red line pointing down to Texas shows that 28 people moved out of Franklin County and relocated to Harris County, TX — that’s where Houston is. Did one of our businesses relocate to Houston in 2008? I don’t recall.

The map comes from this tool on Forbes.com, and the data is from the IRS. Since the IRS doesn’t report inter-county moves of less than 10 people, some relocations in and out of Franklin County won’t show up.

Here’s why I think Franklin County isn’t on the list: The list is using population estimates to chart growth between 2000 and 2008/2009. Pasco’s growth has continued well into 2009/2010, so Franklin County may not show up on a list like this until there are more current numbers.

It’s a four-page brochure that the Port of Pasco is sending out to introduce and promote the Osprey Pointe business park that’s now being built along the Columbia River in the southeast corner of the city.

Groundbreaking at Osprey Pointe happened back on February 22, and phase one of the project is now underway. This phase covers 20 acres right in the middle of the park and five building sites, along with a 20,000 square foot office building that’s due to be completed in January, 2011. The Port is already looking for businesses to lease all or some of the first floor of the anchor building. (The Port itself will occupy the second floor.)

The mailer has a lot more information about the project, not to mention several architect’s renderings — one of which is below — and maps of the whole area.

The mailer says that Sam Good is the guy to contact at the Port of Pasco for more information. 509-547-3378

Real estate taxes in Pasco will go up next year. The city council approved a 0.25 real estate tax increase at last night’s council meeting. The vote was 4-3, with Tom Larsen, Bob Hoffmann, and Matt Watkins voting against the tax increase.

The city’s real estate tax rate will now be 0.5%, meaning the city gets $500 on the sale of a home priced at $100,000. That’s the max allowed under state law, and both Kennewick and Richland are already collecting the full 0.5%.

The city says the tax increase will add $400,000 to the capital improvements fund.

You can read more about the real estate tax increase and other news from last night’s council meeting in this TC Herald article.

It appears that even the City of Pasco, which has long been one of the fastest growing cities in Washington (and the U.S., for that matter), may finall be seeing a real estate slowdown.

The city planning folks report that only six (6) permits were issued for new, single-family homes in November. Six! That’s the lowest monthly total in 10 years in Pasco.

For a little perspective, I’ll point you toward a post from last March that Cari wrote on her own blog:

Pasco Real Estate- Busting at the Seams and a Bust for Sellers

She talks about how the city may be growing at an amazing rate, but explains that new homes were also sitting on the market much longer than comparable homes elsewhere in the area. So, even during the high-growth periods in Pasco, there were some real estate anomalies going on.
