Pasco Library Shutting Down for Two Months

booksIf all goes according to plan, the Pasco branch of the Mid-Columbia Library is going to be closed for two months, starting on December 31st to somewhere around March 2nd. Why? The MCL and City of Pasco are pitching in on a $335,000 remodeling project for the interior of the building.

Improvements planned include:

  • A new paint job, new furnishings, new signage, etc.
  • a new customer service desk combining the current checkout counter and reference desk
  • more self-checkout stations
  • 18 new public computers
  • new computer tech room and a full rewiring of the building

Pasco residents will be able to use the Kennewick and Richland library branches for free while Pasco is closed. There’ll also be a bookmobile setup outside the Pasco facility, and library staff will be stationed at the Cyber Stop computer lab (333 S. Wehe) to handle basic book pick-up and returns.

In somewhat related news, at next week’s meeting, the Pasco City Council will vote on spending about $20,000 to survey a group of residents about their wants and needs where library service is concerned. The city owns the current library building and has several options for future library services — one of which is creating its own municipal library.
