Here’s the quandary we’re in thanks to poor fiscal management over in Olympia in recent years: In the current economic struggles, many people have lost jobs and are going back to school to learn new skills, trades, etc. But because the state budget is all messed up, state education funding is being cut.
Nice, isn’t it?
The Herald ran an article Friday about CBC and its expected $3 million cut in state funding. Here’s a slice:
“…budget cuts will mean fewer offerings, which in turn will mean competition for seats in classes. And while CBC won’t move toward a model of evaluating which students are more qualified to attend college — as four-year institutions do — it will have to take students first come, first served.
“It makes the bile rise in our throats because the whole goal is access to higher education,” Cummins said. “We’re not supposed to be turning people away.”
The Cummins mentioned there is CBC President Rich Cummins.
